This program offers new fun and learning experience for kids ages 7–16. Fencing is one of the five original sports in the modern Olympic Games. It will develop children physically, sharpen students mentally and intellectually promote confidence and self-discipline. The focus of the class is on teaching the fundamentals of the sport as well as good physical fitness habits. These classes are a great way for home schooled kids to get introduced to fencing and fulfill their educational PE requirements. Students will learn the basic skills, correct body posture, footwork techniques, weapon handling, parries, ripostes, and lunges. Students will practice direct touches, step forward touches, and lounge forward touches. Students will be taught movement coordination to further develop general motor skills. Discipline, focus and respect are also taught. In addition, students will study in pairs practicing real sparing in competitive but fun play environment. If your charter school or home school is interested in fencing, please contact Valerie Rosenblatt at valerie@emfc.net or call 650-353-0717
